Matemwe village is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Zanzibar’s other beach towns. This is a place where locals come to relax on holiday, far away from the modern ways of city life.
The village of Matemwe is small, but with many locally owned hotels and restaurants serving up delicious, locally prepared food. The beach itself is magnificent — over 20 kilometers of perfect white sand. It’s possible to walk all the way to the villages of Kiwengwa and Pwanimchangani.
Another thing that lures people to Matemwe is nearby Mnemba Island, one of the best snorkeling and diving destinations in Zanzibar. From Matemwe, Mnemba is only a 30-minute boat trip away.
