ABOUT TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK & NGORONGORO CRATER

Experience the best

of Tanzania safari

Tarangire National Park is in northern Tanzania, just south of the town of Arusha. It’s known for its large herds of elephants, which migrate to the park during the dry season. It is also home to a variety of other animals, including lions, cheetahs, buffalo, wildebeest, and impala, as well as many species of birds and reptiles.

It is a beautiful place, with rolling hills and the winding Tarangire River running through it. The park is also known for its unique Baobab trees, which can reach heights of up to 30 meters.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is a protected area located 180 kilometers west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. It’s home to the famous Ngorongoro Crater — the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera.

Formed about 2-3 million years ago, the crater is a stunning natural formation, with a spectacular view from the rim. The crater is home to a vast array of wildlife, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Tanzania.

Tour Itinerary

DAY 1

We’ll pick you up from your accommodation in Zanzibar in the early morning and drive you to the airport for your flight to Arusha.

From there we’ll drive you to Tarangire National Park for a picnic lunch.

After lunch, we’ll explore the beautiful area stretching south-east of Lake Manyara around the Tarangire River. This region has one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the whole country. Large herds of zebra, wildebeest, hartebeest, and especially elephants are to be found here.

In the afternoon we’ll take you for a game drive in Tarangire National Park and later bring you back to your lodge for dinner.

DAY 2

After an early breakfast, we’ll drive to Ngorongoro Crater for spectacular scenery and game viewing in what has been described as the “eighth wonder of the world.”

A collapsed volcano, Ngorongoro is an incredible natural amphitheater, 25 km across and teeming with all the African big game: the rare black rhino, lion, elephant, cheetah, and great herds of buffalo, antelope, and wildebeest. We’ll descend over 600 meters (2,000 feet) to the floor of the crater for a tour.

We’ll also explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area where you may see flamingos, and the open savannah where lions hunt for food.

Later in the evening, we’ll drive to Karatu for dinner and our overnight stay.

DAY 3

After breakfast, we’ll drive to Mto Wa Mbu for a guided tour of the village. You’ll enjoy a delicious local lunch made by one of the ladies living in the village.

In the afternoon, we’ll drive you to Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar, where your driver will take you back to your hotel.
